Course Content


Students follow an intensive course in the first two semesters that aims to provide solid knowledge on the fundamentals of primary healthcare systems, focusing on primary ophthalmological care provision. The third term is dedicated exclusively to the Master’s dissertation.


1st semester academic modules

A1. Introduction to Primary Care Provision

A2. Anatomy & Pharmacology of the Visual System

A3. Ophthalmological Diagnostic tests and procedures in the Primary Healthcare Sector


2nd semester academic modules

B1. Contemporary management of ophthalmological diseases in the Primary Healthcare Sector

B2. Contemporary management of systemic diseases with ophthalmic manifestations in the Primary Healthcare Sector

B3. Emergency Ophthalmology in the Primary Healthcare Sector


3rd semester (Dissertation)

During the third term, students work on their Masters Dissertation project, the thematic area of which is relevant to their program of studies and their interests. The dissertation provides a good opportunity to apply theory and concepts learned in different courses to a real-world problem or challenge. Students are supervised throughout their projects by a member of the academic faculty and the academic assistants. After submission of the dissertation, students present their projects to classmates and faculty at a special event.
